June 4th, 2011 - 9th Annual JSS Medical Research Corporate Sports Tournament benefiting both the MIRA Foundation and the Starlight Children's Foundation of Canada
The Games for Hope Foundation is proud to announce that the 9th Annual JSS Medical Research Corporate Sports Tournament held at Vanier College on Saturday June 4th, 2011 raised a record approximate $157,000 for two wonderful causes. We are extremely pleased to have now cumulatively raised over half a million dollars for children's causes over these last 9 years.
Thanks to the support of all of the event's sponsors, over 50 teams and approximately 500 players from Montreal's corporate community and beyond that participated in the event, the many generous donors and with the help of over 100 volunteers, the June 2011 tournament raised approximately $157,000 for two wonderful causes.
For the first time in our history, we were extremely proud to be able to support two very deserving benefactors: the Starlight Children's Foundation of Canada and the MIRA Foundation.
A portion of these monies were earmarked to help autistic children obtain a Mira trained dog to better their lives. Autistic children can highly benefit from the therapeutic contact with a trained dog. The remainder of these funds were given to the Starlight Children's Foundation of Canada, who has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses and life-altering injuries by providing entertainment, education and family activities that help them cope with the pain, fear and isolation of prolonged illness.
The tournament was made possible thanks to the event's naming sponsor JSS Medical Research, who returned in 2011 for a second year in a row. A special thank you also goes out to Montreal's the Beat 92.5 (a Cogeco station), Montreal's 105.1 MikeFM, and to the Montreal Gazette. We thank these media partners for their tremendous support once again in 2010. Last but not least, a special thank you also goes out to all of the event's Platinum sponsors and some key corporate supporters and teams, namely: Aeroplan, Aflalo Communications – XM Satellite Radio, CAE, Cantor – Central Station, Centre Kinesis, Charisma, Deloitte, Domino's Pizza, Ericsson, GE Capital, kDw Concepts, Kurvits Media, Nature Pet Centres D'Animaux, Novipro, SAP, SimboliQ, St. John Ambulance, Surface3, and Uni-Select.
The event has grown from a small volleyball tournament, to a multi-sport event that includes both indoor and outdoor beach volleyball, outdoor soccer, and the ever-popular ball hockey tournament. In addition to the Greek Dancing competition during the halftime show, there was the "Outdoor, Food, Fun & Games Tent" that also served up plenty of fun such as: Foosball, The Kiddie Corner including arts & crafts and some other incredible inflatable games
All in all, it was a great day filled with the best that the human spirit has to offer with the common goal of helping two incredible causes and the numerous patients they help out each year.
June 6th, 2009 – 8th Annual JSS Medical Research Corporate Volleyball Tournament benefiting the Sainte-Justine Hospital Foundation
Thanks to the support of all of the event's sponsors, the 50 corporate volleyball teams from the Montreal community that participated in the event, the many generous donors and the help of over 80 volunteers, the June 2009 – 8th Annual JSS Medical Research Corporate Volleyball Tournament raised approximately $119,000 for the Sainte-Justine Hospital Foundation! These monies were earmarked to purchase 4 important pieces of medical equipment for the hospital's Cardiovascular Department. The proceeds from our event helped to purchase 2 monitoring units for the Intensive Care Unit as well as the components for 2 Telemetry monitoring units used to follow stable children on the ward.
The amount of $119,000 raised at this event, as organized by The Games for Hope Foundation, represented an impressive achievement since during this recession year we still managed to surpass the $110,000 raised in 2008. With the incredible support of the volleyball teams who increased their fundraising efforts considerably, even though we lost a few major sponsors due to the difficult times, we still managed to raise more money than the previous year. What an incredible achievement that everyone should be extremely proud of.
The tournament was made possible thanks to the event's new naming sponsor JSS Medical Research. A special thank you also goes out to CTV Montreal and Montreal's Q92FM radio for being the official media partners of the event and for their tremendous support once again in 2009. Last but not least, a special thank you also goes out to all of the event's Platinum sponsors, namely: Aflalo Communications – XM Satellite Radio, Cantor – Central Station, Centre Kinesis, CTV Montreal, Ericsson, kDw Concepts, KPMG, Kurvits Media, Midtown – Le Sporting Club Sanctuaire, Nature Pet Centres D'Animaux, Group Penté, Montreal's Q92FM radio, Surface3, Sulano Travel, 23 H 15, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, and Yacoub & Associates Recruitment Professionals.
The event was about more than just volleyball. This year we expanded the tournament to include both indoor volleyball and the very popular outdoor beach volleyball. In addition the Greek Dancing competition during the halftime show, there was the "Outdoor, Food, Fun & Games Tent" that also served up plenty of fun such as: Foosball, The Kiddie Corner including arts & crafts and some other incredible inflatable games
All in all, it was a great day filled with the best that the human spirit has to offer with the common goal of helping the Sainte-Justine Hospital purchase much needed new equipment for their Cardiology Department that treats over 10,000 patients each year.
